I'm trying to try out a GUI application with the click() method, like so

tk.Button(root, text="hello", command=lambda x=root: test(x,0)).grid(row=1, column=0)

tk.mainloop()
But I get an error that root is not defined. How do I get around this, or is there another way to run an event handler that isn't the click() method?

The lambda function is capturing the variable root. You can either use functools.partial to provide a fixed value instead:
